about
In the final weeks of 2014, a group of musicians gathered to record a new composition, 'I Can't Breathe,' in response to racial injustices in the USA, including the deaths of people of color at the hands of law enforcement.
Featuring the voices of JB Eckl and Eric Dozier (Moanin' Sons) as well as Lonnie Jordan of the legendary funk band WAR, 'I Can't Breathe' is dedicated to all those affected by entrenched systems of racial discrimination left over from America's violent past. In very real sense, this is all of us, because as the song itself says: 'All of us are blood.'
Please share this music and message with all of your friends on social media. May this be a time of change.
Someone on the TV told me
No one's ever bought or sold me
How come I don't know I'm doing fine
Feeling like 3/5ths a person
Watch as every day it worsens
Prob'ly wind up dead or doing time
I CAN'T BREATHE
I CAN'T BE
Like Solomon once sang
If one of us is chained
Then none of us are free
I CAN'T BREATHE
CAN'T YOU SEE
That all of us are blood
Thicker than the mud
And brother I can't breathe
Building on a bad foundation
Grinding up the bones of nations
Thinking it'll all just blow away
Living in the land of plenty
They'll do you like it's 1920
And now they're asking 'where'd we go astray'
I CAN'T BREATHE
I CAN'T BE
Like Solomon once sang
If one of us is chained
Then none of us are free
I CAN'T BREATHE
CAN'T YOU SEE
That all of us are blood
Thicker than the mud
And brother I can't breathe
I'm not one to be naive
But even I cannot believe
All the things I heard you say
In this brand new day
Hoping someone's out there listening
Ready to indict the system
This is where we find out who we are
Who we are
Who we are
I CAN'T BREATHE
I CAN'T BE
Like Solomon once sang
If one of us is chained
Then none of us are free
I CAN'T BREATHE
CAN'T YOU SEE
That all of us are blood
Thicker than the mud
And brother I can't…
Brother I can't...
